A no hitter in seven innings? The Atlanta Braves felt the punch to the gut. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner made history as the first player to throw a no hitter in a seven-inning game this MLB season.

That isn't heard of but due to a doubleheader, the games are only seven innings. Madison Bumgarner threw a no-hitter against the talented Atlanta Braves lineup in the second game of the doubleheader.

No hitters are hard to come by in baseball and even though it was only seven innings, it was still a great accomplishment and performance by Madison Bumgarner.

Bumgarner's words about the conditions in Atlanta and about MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred were delivered with a laugh, but they also ring true.

It was a tough task to no-hit the star studded Braves lineup that includes Ronald AcuƱa Jr., Freddie Freeman, Marcell Ozuna, and others. Madison Bumgarner has been a great pitcher throughout his career, winning the 2014 World Series MVP Award, but had never thrown a no-hitter.

The Braves had a tough day at the plate as they went a combined 1 for 42 in the doubleheader. The talented roster has fallen to 9-12 on the season and will need to improve if they are going to make the playoffs. Freddie Freeman is only hitting .205 on the season and his struggles are a concern for Atlanta as the season progresses. The Braves' lineup will need to figure it out moving forward to have a chance of making the playoffs.

Bumgarner's no-hit bid is being looked at by the MLB and the Elias Sports Bureau on whether or not it will officially be ruled one in the history books. Whatever way they decide, it is still an impressive feat by Madison Bumgarner.
