Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner was ejected following the first inning of Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins. In what was a serious crazy and contentious ejection, Bumgarner had to be held back from attacking first base umpire Dan Bellino.

After the game, the Diamondbacks lefty was asked about what happened and had an interesting take.

After Bumgarner got a fly out to end the first inning, the umpire checked his hand. Bumgarner was asked if he has ever seen anything like that.

“No, I haven’t seen one like that… you’ve seen the video, I’ve seen the video… this whole thing should not have happened,” Arizona’s starter said.

During the inning, Bumgarner had a couple of words for home plate umpire from the mound after a couple of close calls that didn’t go his way. It’s possible that the first base umpire, Bellino, took exception to that. Strangely, upon watching the incident, Bellino while checking out Bumgarner’s hand, does not even look down at his hand once. He stared at the Diamondbacks pitcher the entire time. It did not appear he was actually looking for anything in particular.

Bumgarner clearly took exception to that and had some choice words for Bellino. That prompted the umpire to then toss him from the game. It was a bizarre scene that really fired up the big lefty.

The Arizona Diamondbacks battled and ended up coming from behind for an 8-7 win. They are now back to .500 at 13-13 in the loaded National League West.
