The Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Syracuse Orange in spectacular fashion during Thursday's ACC Tournament quarterfinal.

Virginia and Syracuse were knotted at 69-apiece in the final seconds when freshman Cavaliers guard Reece Beekman drilled a game-winning three-pointer at the horn.

The win gives Virginia–winners of the ACC regular-season title–a chance to improve its seeding for the NCAA Tournament.

But did Beekman's heroics cost the Orange a spot in the field of 68?

Syracuse moved into ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi's “Last Four In” after Butler knocked Xavier out of the Big East Tournament on Wednesday night. A win over Virginia would almost assuredly have granted the Orange a spot in the field of 68 come Sunday. However, there is not a whole lot of wiggle room for Syracuse after a heartbreaking loss.

The Orange do not have a whole lot of quality wins on their resume. They defeated Virginia Tech back in late-January and also have wins over Clemson and North Carolina. Are those three ACC regular-season victories enough to warrant a spot in the field?

Tony Bennett's team will be glad not to have much to worry about come Sunday. The Cavaliers moved up to No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25, and they will certainly improve their seeding for the NCAA Tournament if they can add an ACC Tournament championship tot he regular-season title.

The ACC has been a strange conference this season, particularly with typical blue bloods like Duke and North Carolina struggling just to get a spot in the field.

Duke is unlikely to get in after a positive COVID-19 test forced the Blue Devils out of the ACC Tournament. Might the Orange also be out of luck after Thursday's loss?
