The Miami Heat received good news on the condition of their starting shooting guard.

After suffering a severe ankle sprain against the Minnesota Timberwolves last month, Dion Waiters is now out of a walking boot and has already started doing some work to get his conditioning back.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed the development, via Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post, and has all signs pointing to his return happening soon.

“Nothing new, but he is making progress. He’s starting to do some conditioning. He’s out of his boot, so that’s good.”

Waiters is having a career year this season with the Heat averaging 15.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. More importantly, he's emerged as their go-to-guy in late-game situations and has knocked down a number of clutch shots for them this season.

His surge of improvement has the Heat now in eighth place in the Eastern Conference despite their 11-30 start to the season. With only six games left on their schedule, the Heat are hoping Waiters can make a return to the court before the playoffs start to ensure he gets back into game shape and prepare him for the postseason, where the team will look to upset one of the higher seeds and continue their improbable run of success.
