The Dallas Mavericks are having one of their worst starts in franchise history. Even with key additions to their roster last summer, the team has struggled to win games and has been dealing with a lot of injuries to their players.

One of them is Dirk Nowitzki who has been suffering from an Achilles injury that has hampered his movement since the offseason. When asked recently how he is dealing with this setback, he admitted that at his advanced age, it is harder to recover unlike 10 years ago.

“I’m hoping that it heals pretty soon here and I can play the rest of the season pretty pain-free. Achilles injuries are tough, they just limit your movement a lot.”

“If it limits my movement 10 years ago I’d still be able to play effectively out there. But if it limits my movement now, I’m already a step slow – that makes me three steps slow and it just makes so sense to be out there.’’

The German international also discussed his health goal as the campaign progresses.

“Just seeing it day-by-day, pushing it a little more and seeing how it reacts. It’s frustrating for me…it never happened before in my career.”

“It’s tough, but once I’m out there I don’t want the same thing to happen again just like next week, so I want to make sure now that it’s good to go.’’

The Dallas faithful are definitely hoping that their leader and former league MVP can heal fast and make a return sooner rather than later. Nowitzki is very vital to the team's success, serving as the Mavs' veteran mentor and locker room leader.

If the Mavericks get all their players back and they perform to their full potential as a team, all may not be lost for the franchise this season and they may still be able to turn their fortunes around.
