With the offseason now in full swing, players are starting to take vacations, as well as pursue some of their interests. For Dirk Nowitzki and Kemba Walker though, it’s still all about playing basketball, as they will be part of the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders campaign and become part of the teams that will showcase their talents in front of fans in Johannesburg, South Arica.

The two have been named co-captains of the World Team that will go up against Team Africa, made up of players in the league from the continent, as well as second generation African players, according to the announcement made by on NBA.com. Thabo Sefolosha and Luol Deng will be their counterparts and will be headlining Team Africa.

Nowitzki couldn’t hide his excitement for having the opportunity to play once again in South Africa after eight years. The Dallas Mavericks forward added that he feels honored being chosen as one of the captains and is happy with how the game of basketball is continuing to grow in the continent.

“I’m really excited to represent Team World in the second NBA Africa Game this summer. I also look forward to returning to South Africa after taking part in the Basketball without Borders Africa camp eight years ago. It’s great to see how the game is growing across the continent, and I’m honored to be a part of this historic event.”

The Charlotte Hornets star guard echoed Nowitzki’s comments while also saying that he will never forget the experience once he plays there.

“I can’t wait to make my first trip to Africa and join Dirk in leading Team World. Playing in an NBA game in Africa will be a special moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

The exhibition game is scheduled on August 5 and will be played inside the Ticketpro Dome, where it is expected to be sold out, especially with a lot of South African fans following the NBA.
