Talented rapper and actor DMX (otherwise known as Earl Simmons) has passed away at the age of just 50-years-old. This was a buildup of sad news over the last few days, and numerous outlets early Friday afternoon began to report on his death.

A statement from those around DMX was released to XXL:

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

On April 3, news began to surface that DMX allegedly overdoses and was, in turn, in bad health.

After that, reports were wide and varied — and often disputed — about his state. Some claimed he was in the ICU, others said he was already braindead, while a few claimed he was fine.

Nonetheless, DMX left a lasting impression in the world of music. While it would be nice if everyone smelled the roses while our idols were still around, it was nice to see not just fans, but also musicians relive some of his best work.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to not only DMX himself, but his friends, family and anyone else who is hurting today over the news.
