Despite losing their star point guard Chris Paul to a trade with the Houston Rockets, L.A. Clippers head coach Doc Rivers is making it known that he is happy where his team is now.

The 55-year-old faced some members of the media following the blockbuster deal, and put up a brave face to keep the L.A. faithful at ease even if their former leader and elite floor general will compete against them starting next season. Rivers admitted that there could’ve been a better way to end their relationship with Paul, but added that they are contented with the haul of players they received in return.

In exchange for Paul’s services, the Clippers received a total of seven players, including Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley, Montrezl Harrell, and Sam Dekker, plus a future first-round pick. Although it can be argued that Paul’s experience and skill set cannot be replaced, the team still has maximized the return they could have gotten, and now has a deeper rotation.

However, Paul’s departure could also mean losing Blake Griffin in free agency. J.J. Redick has already been reported to not being interested in signing with the Clippers anymore. DeAndre Jordan might be placed on the trading block as well, as the franchise may go on full rebuild mode.
