The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped a 2-1 extra inning affair against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. LA now trails the San Diego Padres in the NL West and they have labored during the month of June. Players such as Justin Turner and Max Muncy have underperformed, while Mookie Betts is currently dealing with an injury scare. There is no question LA is not at full strength. Nonetheless, Cody Bellinger dropped a truth bomb on the Dodgers' recent lackluster play, via the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s a long season and we are going to go through droughts. It’s not because of a lack of effort or preparation.”

Cody Bellinger, who provided the Dodgers lone run via a solo homer in their 2-1 defeat, also commented on Clayton Kershaw's strong pitching performance.

“Kersh looked good to me from center field,” Bellinger said. “His arsenal looks the same as always. He competes.”

Clayton Kershaw went five innings and allowed just one run against the Guardians. But LA's offense didn't provide him with much run support.

The Dodgers should be fine in the long run. Sure, they are looking very beatable at the moment. But this is still arguably the deepest roster in the big leagues.

Manager Dave Roberts added his thoughts on the Dodgers offensive struggles.

“We barreled a lot of baseballs in the first four innings and didn’t have anything to show for it. After that, we just couldn’t string anything together. There were some situational at-bats where we weren’t productive. That was the difference in the game.”

The Dodgers will aim to turn things around on Saturday in Game Two of a three-game set with Cleveland.
