While there was some optimism about Cody Bellinger being able to suit up for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the coming weekend series against the San Diego Padres, it now looks as though the star is going to be out of action for a few more games.

According to LA team manager Dave Roberts, Bellinger is currently dealing with a hairline fracture in his leg. This report comes from Jorge Castillo of the LA Times:

Cody Bellinger was initially tagged with a left calf contusion after being hit on April 5. He has missed eight games since, and his extended time on the sidelines has raised a bit of concern. True enough, it has now been confirmed that Bellinger is currently dealing with more than just a contusion.

Roberts, however, did not reveal how much longer they expect their star center fielder to be out of the roster in light of this recent development. It would not be surprising, however, if Bellinger is forced to miss a significant amount of time due to this injury.

As for the Padres, it was earlier announced that Fernando Tatis Jr. is expected to participate in the Dodgers series after missing the past nine games due to a left shoulder injury. It would have been ideal to see both teams at full strength during the series, but this just wasn't going to be the case.

More information should arrive soon on Bellinger's status moving forward and we will make sure to pass along the information as they come. Keep your eyes here for the latest on this developing story.
