The Los Angeles Dodgers looked poised to be the team that would finally put up a bid for back-to-back World Series titles.

The Dodgers looked the part before the season began. Their chances looked better than ever when they added Max Scherzer and Trea Turner via midseason trade.

And after knocking out the San Francisco Giants, the only team with a better record than them during the regular season, a World Series appearance looked like it was in the cards. But alas, it was not meant to be.

Now comes the hard part. With several of their key players set to test free agency, it'll be a challenge to see who they can lock up and who they'd have to let go. Corey Seager, the Dodgers' full-time shortstop for the last half decade, spoke out on whether he still sees his future in Dodger blue.

Via Dodgers beat writer Bill Plunkett:

“Yeah, absolutely,” said Seager. “I grew up here. I spent a lot of time here. I believe in what these guys do. I believe in how we go about it. Absolutely.”

But while the conviction is surely genuine from Corey Seager, getting pen to paper is a different matter entirely. Aside from Seager, the Dodgers also have to deal with the futures of Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, Max Scherzer, and Chris Taylor, among others.

The checks would have been much easier to cut with another championship, that's for sure. But if the Los Angeles Dodgers hope to return atop the MLB once more, they need to continue to flex their financial muscles for the players that deserve it.
