Casey Close, the former agent of Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman called out Fox Sports radio host Doug Gottlieb for a “reckless” tweet accusing him of withholding the Atlanta Braves' final offer from his client. Close wasn't done there, though. Now, he's coming for the Braves, who he blasted in a statement on Thursday, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

“I will not stand by as the circumstances surrounding Freddie Freeman's departure from Atlanta are mischaracterized. Since March, the Braves have fostered a narrative about the negotiations which, stated plainly, is false.”

Those are some of Close's words in an indictment of the Braves and their characterization of Freeman's free agency departure. Freeman's agent was fired during the Dodgers' series against the Braves this past weekend.

The Athletic reported that Freeman made the move so as not to allow Close's employer, Excel, to trumpet his lucrative deal. Then, Gottlieb sent out a tweet saying that Close withheld the Braves' final offer from Freeman, which the agent vehemently denied.

Freeman was a fan favorite in Atlanta after spending 12 seasons there and winning a World Series in 2021. There was a sense from many that the Braves were going to eventually pull through and agree to a contract, though after much hemming and hawing, he ended up in a Dodgers uniform.

It's possible that both Close and the Braves share the blame for the situation. Ultimately, it's just unfortunate how Freeman's excellent tenure with the club came to an end.
