The Los Angeles Dodgers are placing superstar Clayton Kershaw on the 15-day IL and recalling LHP Garrett Cleavinger in a corresponding move, per Kirsten Watson. Kershaw was diagnosed with SI joint inflammation on Friday. The injury seemingly appeared out of nowhere, as there were no prior reports of the ailment. The official announcement came before his scheduled start at home against the Phillies.

The future Hall of Famer has not shown any signs of slowing down in his age-34 campaign. Clayton Kershaw currently possesses an impressive 4-0 record, 1.80 ERA, and 0.73 WHIP. He has been a vital part of a Dodgers rotation which leads MLB in team ERA.

He almost threw a perfect game against the Twins earlier in the season, but was removed prior to the eighth inning by manager Dave Roberts. The move by Roberts was (now ironically) to help the veteran avoid injury. However, the good news is that this ailment is not an elbow/shoulder issue.

Clayton Kershaw's timetable is unclear. More information about the duration of his absence should become available over the weekend. The team reportedly believes it will not be a long-term issue at the moment.

Cleavinger, who was recalled due to Kershaw's injury, has posted a 5.40 ERA in 1 2/3 big-league innings this season.

Walker Buehler will get the start in place of Clayton Kershaw for Friday's ballgame against Philadelphia. The Dodgers will aim to rebound after dropping Game 1 of their four-game home series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

LA fans have their fingers crossed that Kershaw's injury is not anything too serious.
