The Los Angeles Dodgers, who were once the Brooklyn Dodgers, have a storied MLB history. Many greats have suited up for the franchise. On Saturday, the Dodgers will be honoring one of those greats before their game against the Cleveland Guardians. Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax will join fellow Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson in Los Angeles immortality with the second commemorative statue in franchise history.

The Dodgers will unveil a Sandy Koufax statue ahead of their game against the Guardians on June 18. The first 40,000 fans at Dodger Stadium will receive a replica statue of the Hall of Fame hurler. It will be the second statue of a Dodgers legend to be unveiled outside the ballpark, along with Jackie Robinson's.

Branly Cadet, who sculpted the Robinson statue, will be putting his skills on display once again for Koufax's figurine. Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement that the Koufax statue will be located right next to Robinson's at the main entrance to the Centerfield Plaza. From Dodger Blue:

“The statue will be located at our main entrance in the Centerfield Plaza, right next to Jackie Robinson’s statue, and fans entering those gates will be ‘greeted’ by Jackie and Sandy,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement.

“Not only are both of these Hall of Famers part of our rich Dodger history, they are also continuously inspiring sports fans everywhere.”

Koufax only won 165 games in 12 seasons but his 2.76 career ERA speaks for itself. In his prime, he was one of the best pitchers anyone has ever seen.

From 1961 to 1966, he pitched to an astonishing 2.19 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP and 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings. It's not hard to see why he was nicknamed The Left Arm of God.

Now, The Left Arm of God will join Jackie Robinson in Dodgers immortality. First pitch is at 4:15pm PT.
