The Los Angeles Dodgers endured a difficult week after getting swept by the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates in LA. It was one of their overall worst three game performances of the season. But the Dodgers rebounded on Thursday against a much better Mets team with a 2-0 victory. Tony Gonsolin led the Dodgers with 6 innings of shutout ball to go along with 5 strikeouts.

Gonsolin's spectacular effort drew praise from manager Dave Roberts and catcher Will Smith.

“I think he just had command of his entire pitch mix,” Dave Roberts said of Gonsolin. “”Collectively we did a really nice job preventing runs tonight.”

Will Smith commented on catching the Dodgers' right-hander.

“He’s just going at guys. He’s not trying to make perfect pitches He’s attacking the zone. He’s getting ahead and getting in good counts and then putting guys away.”

There was no question that his performance was vital to Los Angeles's success on Thursday against a quality Mets team. It should be noted that New York was without star shortstop Francisco Lindor after he suffered a rather odd injury.

Nonetheless, Gonsolin has emerged as a star-caliber pitcher in the Dodgers rotation.

Tony Gonsolin then shared his thoughts on his performance.

“Just going out there and throwing strikes and trying to trust my stuff. Letting the defense play and they definitely played today. So yeah, just trying to keep that up and keep that going moving into the next start.”

The Dodgers will look to build momentum off of their Thursday victory and keep it going on Friday against the Mets.
