Trevor Bauer's career has been a wild rollercoaster thus far. The latest addition to the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher's story is a high-profile sexual assault lawsuit filed against him last year. After this lawsuit was made public, the league placed Bauer on administrative leave, as coverage of the case started to spread.

Now, the Dodgers pitcher is fighting back. Trevor Bauer announced on his social media that he will be filing a defamation lawsuit against media outlet Deadspin. According to the lawsuit: (via Daily Breeze)

“Deadspin’s malicious and reckless disregard of the truth … reflects a years-long effort to harass Mr. Bauer, impugn his reputation, and spread falsehoods about him,”

Bauer's off-field antics have been just as prolific as his on-field achievements. At his peak, the Dodgers pitcher is one of the best to ever hit the mound, with a deadly arsenal of pitches at his disposal. He's a perennial Cy Young award candidate with one trophy to his name back in 2020. His talent is undeniable.

However, his off-field actions leave something to be desired. A history of abrasiveness and being a difficult teammate has plagued the star pitcher even before his debut with the Dodgers. Trevor Bauer's sexual assault case is just another instance of his off-field actions distracting from his on-field brilliance.

The Dodgers have bigger problems on the table, though, than Bauer's lawsuit. Even if Bauer is cleared of all charges or settles with his accuser, there's a significant chance he won't be able to see the field. That's because of the current hold-out between players and owners, leading to cancellation of games in the 2022 season.
