Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase is standing by Jay Cutler. According to the relatively young head coach, if Jay Cutler is healthy, he will be the team's starting quarterback as soon as Miami's next game.

Thing is, Adam Gase has no idea if he will be healthy enough to start soon.

I’m not 100 percent sure right now,” Gase said, via Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I know Monday he ran with the team and he threw. He felt pretty good. I wasn’t going to put him out there tonight. I just didn’t think it was the smart thing to do. I know he’s tough but I didn’t want to put him in a bad situation where he could get hurt worse.”

For those who may have forgotten, Cutler is suffering from multiple broken ribs.

Also, the Dolphins are currently relying on Matt Moore to play the quarterback position (not the CBS NBA writer).

Moore, who started on Thursday evening, finished 22 of 44 for 176 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions — which were both returned for touchdowns — and a 47.2 passer rating. Those are not very good numbers. In fact, it could be argued that they are awful.

Not that any of this matters. Gase is making it clear that Cutler is Miami's guy the moment he is healthy enough to hurl a football around without there being a real risk of more injury.

For Miami's sake, here is to hoping the Dolphins get Cutler back as soon as humanly possible. For Cutler's sake, let's hope he doesn't rush back too soon.
