Following a disappointing 2017 season, the Miami Dolphins face plenty of questions surrounding their quarterback situation. However, head coach Adam Gase has immediately brought clarity by flatly stating that Ryan Tannehill will be the starting quarterback next season, per Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald.

This declaration from Gase all but shuts the door on Jay Cutler returning for another year with the Dolphins. The 34-year-old struggled to bring stability to the offense, throwing for 2,666 passing yards with 19 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions while holding an 80.8 passer rating in 14 games played. After the season, he said he'd only sign with a team where he'd start.

Gase expressed confidence in Tannehill's ability to lead Miami in 2018:

Tannehill missed the entire 2017 season due to an ACL tear suffered during the second week of training camp. In response to him going down, the team signed Cutler to a one-year deal.

Tannehill held an 8-5 record through 13 games before suffering a sprained ACL abruptly ended his 2016 campaign. He began to show promise of being a quarterback that can lead the Dolphins to success with his arm.

The 29-year-old has plenty of time to prepare himself for the 2018 season given that it occurred back in August. Keep in mind, Tannehill still has three years left on his 4-year, $77 million contract; $5.5 million of his $17.4 million salary for 2018 becomes guaranteed on March 18th.
