Miami Dolphins tight end Dwayne Allen was finally able to get his first taste of action after missing the start of training camp while nursing a knee injury. It appears he has already made quite the impression on head coach Brian Flores.

Allen's physicality on his first day back did not go unnoticed by the coaching staff. According to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Flores has high hopes for him moving forward:

“He brings leadership, he brings energy, he brings effort,” coach Brian Flores said about Allen.

“He’s going to have to go out there and block and be productive when he gets out there,” Flores continued. “I think he’s a good receiving tight end. That’s something that we’ll try to take advantage of if we can, but that’s up to Dwayne.”

Flores is already familiar with what Allen brings to the table. They spent the last two seasons together with the New England Patriots before they both signed with Miami this offseason.

Although Allen was not utilized much as a receiver during his time with the Patriots, Flores' comments indicate that he will be looking to get him involved in the passing game moving forward. At the very least, they are hoping to instill the same winning culture that brought them success in New England.

Tight end has hardly been a position of strength for the Dolphins in recent years. Allen's presence should provide some much-needed stability for whichever quarterback is able to establish themselves as the starter once the 2019 NFL season rolls around.
