The Miami Dolphins have made some splashy moves this offseason. First, they get a new head coach in Brian Flores. Then, they trade for a new quarterback in Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Dolphins have been in search of a legitimate franchise QB for some time now, and Rosen certainly has the pedigree to fit that role.

However, Flores wants Rosen to know that despite the Dolphins trading for him, he isn’t just going to be handed the starting job in Miami; he’s going to have to earn it.

“When Josh gets here, he's got to compete for any type of role that he has here. That's the case for everyone in the building,” Flores said per Cameron Wolfe of ESPN. “The guys who produce on the practice field and do all the things that help this team win — those are the guys who will play.”

“You have to earn the right to get that kind of label,” Flores said. “You have to do it in the meeting, on the practice field. To label a kid like that right off the bat, I feel like that's unfair in a lot of ways. You have to earn it.”

Aside from Rosen, the Dolphins have veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jake Rudock, and Luke Falk on their quarterback depth chart.

On paper, the Dolphins’ starting job should be Rosen’s to lose. As a former top-10 pick, he’s got the highest talent upside among those four and should be head and shoulders above them.

However, Rosen didn’t have the best rookie year in Arizona, so he will have to prove to Flores and the Dolphins that he is truly is worthy of the job.

If Rosen does live up to his potential, Flores and the Dolphins could be able to make some noise in the AFC East fairly soon.
