Despite his undoubted talent, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa slid all the way down to the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. That was purely because of his lingering injury from his Alabama days. All the speculation is now over as the rookie is medically cleared to attend the full roster training camp.

Palm Beach Post journalist Joe Schad confirmed the news on Twitter:

As a true freshman for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tua Tagovailoa was the backup to then sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts. His name was brought to the limelight when he replaced Hurts in the second half of the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Due to the ineffective play by Hurts, Tagovailoa took over the offense and threw the game-winning 41-yard touchdown pass in overtime. The Crimson Tide went on to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs, 26-23, claiming their 17th National Championship. Tagovailoa was then deservedly named the Offensive MVP of the game.

Tagovailoa finished his collegiate career as the holder of numerous Alabama football records, as well as notable NCAA career records. He finished his amateur career with a total of 7,442 yards on 684 attempts and scored 87 touchdowns in a span of three seasons.

The rookie gunslinger will be the face leading the continuous rebuild for a Miami Dolphins. The franchise looks to Tua to change the course of their team that's experienced little success in recent years. The team rounded off their 2019 campaign with a disappointing 5-11 record. The Miami Dolphins ended up finishing at the bottom of the AFC East division.

The Fins will be matching up against a revamped New England Patriots on September 13 at Gilette Stadium in Foxborough.
