Entering his first season as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Brian Flores has already begun making roster decisions to condense his roster to 53 players. On Friday, the Dolphins decided to release wide receiver Brice Butler, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The veteran receiver has had a tough time sticking with a team in the NFL but there's no doubt he'll land on another roster for 2019. His release comes as a bit of a surprise as the Dolphins don't exactly have a deep group of receivers on their current roster.

Butler kickstarted his NFL career with the Oakland Raiders in 2013. He was taken in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of San Diego State.

Over the course of his two seasons in Oakland, Butler corralled 30 receptions for 383 yards and two touchdowns. Shortly after the 2015 season began, the Dallas Cowboys acquired Butler via trade.

Prior to the 2018 season, from 2015-2017, Butler totaled 43 catches, 794 yards, and six touchdowns with the Cowboys. Then, last year, Dallas made the decision to release him in October. Nearly a month later, Butler landed with the Dolphins but he rarely saw the field. In six games in Miami, the 29-year old pass-catcher managed to catch just six passes for 60 yards.

There are question marks pertaining to the Dolphins' wide receiver position in 2019. Among the unknowns, there have been recent rumors that the Dolphins could consider trading Kenny Stills. Nonetheless, with the release of Butler, the Dolphins will likely be in the market for receivers as other teams cut players in the next couple of days.
