The Miami Dolphins entered the offseason in need of a quarterback, and while they did not draft one, they made a draft weekend trade for one, sending the 62nd overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for Josh Rosen.

Rosen was the Cardinals' first-round pick from a year ago but had a rough rookie campaign, starting 12 games and throwing for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions while completing just 55.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 66.7.

But, Dolphins quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell is looking forward to what Rosen can do in South Beach.

“Josh has got a clean slate here,” said Caldwell, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “He’s in a new system [with] a different group of guys, and we’re looking forward.”

Rosen will be competing with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for the job, and offensive coordinator Chad O'Shea is not prepared to merely hand the position over to Rosen.

“They’ll get what they earn,” said O'Shea. “This is a very competitive situation. We have options at the position.”

“Options” or not, it's clear that the Dolphins view Rosen as their quarterback of the future, even with Rosen's dismal rookie year.

“In this league, you can find guys that have a great year one year, and they disappear literally the next,” Caldwell said. “It’s the body of work over an extended period of time. He has just been through his first year, so he’s working at it, and he’s obviously trying to put himself to be in position to have a little bit of a better year than last year.”

The Dolphins won seven games in 2018.
