The Miami Dolphins have bulked up their backfield this NFL offseason with the addition of veteran running back Frank Gore that has brought aboard a proven talent to the mix.

Since joining the team, Gore has been in direct competition with Kenyan Drake for playing as the two have pushed forward to handle much of the workload in the backfield in the offseason workouts and training camp. According to Andre C. Fernandez of The Miami Herald, the Dolphins currently have both Gore and Drake listed as the co-starters on the depth chart.

On it the Dolphins lists both veteran Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake as first team options at running back with an “OR” in between both players names.

This makes it quite clear that the Dolphins plan to have split-carry duties between both Gore and Drake in the backfield at least to start the preseason. It is an approaching likely taken to see which player can show more playmaking ability while also allowing them to both be used to provide a dynamic one-two punch in the running game.

Gore has been one of the league’s most productive running backs throughout his NFL career where he has topped 1,000 rushing yards nine times in his career and is coming off another productive campaign recording 961 rushing yards last season with the Indianapolis. He has now pushed himself to being fifth all-time in that category with the chance to pass up Hall of Famer Curtis Martin in the 2018 campaign to move up to fourth as he trails by less than 100 yards.

Meanwhile, Drake has shown plenty of promising potential in the second half of last season where he put up 444 of his career-high 644 rushing yards in the final five games of the regular seasons, including a pair of 100-yard performances. All of this should set the table for what could be a highly formidable running game for the Dolphins next season.
