The Miami Dolphins suffered a setback with the injury to running back Kenyan Drake two weeks ago. Fortunately, there is newfound optimism that he will be good to go for the start of the 2019 NFL season.

Drake suffered a right foot injury that required him to wear a walking boot, but he is now out of the boot and back at practice:

This is certainly a welcome sight for Miami given the timing of Drake's injury was hardly ideal. Head coach Brian Flores even indicated Drake's recovery could take some time, however, it appears he has healed quite nicely.

The 25-year-old seemed poised to take over as the clear-cut starter during the offseason. He found himself competing with running back Kalen Ballage for the No. 1 spot before he suffered a setback with the foot injury. Although his absence made way for Ballage to see an increase in snaps, he was not able to take advantage after rushing for a mere 17 yards on 12 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kenyan Drake's return will give him another week to solidify his case as the potential starter in the season opener versus the Baltimore Ravens. He is coming off a disappointing 2018 campaign after long being on the cusp of a breakout season. As a result, this could be a deciding year for him to establish himself as a legitimate workhorse before the Dolphins seek out other options.
