Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has had quite an impressive rookie campaign, and he may be on the verge of breaking one notable record.

Waddle has been the go-to receiver for both second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Jacoby Brissett over the season. Overall, the rookie wideout has been targeted 126 times, and he has hauled in 96 receptions for 941 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.

Waddle could soon have an opportunity to etch his name in NFL history.

Longtime Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin is the record holder for the most receptions by a rookie in a season, as he notched 101 catches in his opening campaign back in 2003.

Even as the NFL has seen a multitude of standout wideouts enter the league over the past two decades, Boldin’s record still stands today. The likes of Michael Thomas (92 in 2015) and Odell Beckham Jr. (91 in 2014) came close to reaching this feat, but still, Boldin’s 101 receptions in 2003 remain as the all-time record.

Barring any injury or a significant downturn in performance over the Dolphins' final two games of the regular season, Waddle should come away with at least six receptions to break this record. He has recorded at least six catches in nine different games so far this season.

Waddle recently opened up on what it would mean if he were to reach this feat.

“I wouldn’t say it’s something I got my mind focused on, but I’m all for it as long as it comes with some wins,” Waddle said. “It would obviously be pretty cool because the NFL is a special league, so anything in this league to have a record in is always big.”

In the big picture, Waddle sure has an aim at helping the Dolphins pick up a win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 17 in order to remain in the AFC playoff picture.
