Ryan Fitzpatrick has been the savior of the Miami Dolphins more times than not this season. He continued that trend on Sunday as he elevated the South Beach franchise over the New York Jets.

Still, that won't help him become a starter again, with head coach Brian Flores reaffirming Miami's decision to stick with Tua Tagovailoa as their starter for the future.

“If he’s healthy, he’s the guy,” Flores said in his postgame press conference following the Dolphins' win on Sunday, per Pro Football Talk.

Tagovailoa missed Sunday's matchup as he nurses a thumb injury he sustained during practice. The rookie quarterback has had some impressive showings this season against opponents such as the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Chargers. After missing the first few weeks following a recovery from his season-ending hip surgery with Alabama, Tagovailoa was inserted into the starting lineup.

Fitzpatrick has been a good sport through the back and forth trips he's taken to the bench despite his production this season. There's growing belief in some instances that he should indeed be the starter while Tagovailoa becomes more familiar with the pro setting, but the Dolphins' coaching staff appears to be more fixated on throwing the rookie into the fire and seeing how he responds.

In any case, Ryan Fitzpatrick has shown starter-like capabilities this season, having completed five games in which he's had two or more touchdowns. Moreover, he has completed 69.8 percent of his passes as well throughout the campaign. It'll be interesting to see how his offseason pans out, as there will surely be some clubs that field his services.
