The Miami Dolphins may have found their starter for the 2019 NFL season in quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. However, it appears they are still looking to secure depth under center in future NFL Drafts.

It is no secret that Miami has ushered in some signifcant changes this offseason. According to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, general manager Chris Grier has not ruled out taking quarterbacks in the next two drafts:

“We could maybe take one both this year and next year,” Grier said.

The prospect of any team taking not just one but two potential franchise quarterbacks may seem a bit far-fetched. However, it could make sense in the Dolphins' situation. They had committed to quarterback Ryan Tannehill for seven seasons to no avail, as he spent most of his time recovering from injury in recent years. Perhaps Miami could be looking to make up for lost time by going heavy on quarterbacks moving forward.

Regardless, if there is one thing new head coach Brian Flores learned with the New England Patriots, it is the importance of having a franchise quarterback. Fitzpatrick endured his fair share of struggles during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although he has proven to be a viable option at times, he has long been in the final stretch of his career.

The Dolphins would be wise to develop a young quarterback now while the veteran is still a capable starter. If they do not find the right man for the job in this year's draft, it is safe to assume they will be back to the drawing board for another quarterback next year.
