The Miami Dolphins have yet to engage in extension discussions with running back Kenyan Drake, according to Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post.

Drake is entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract and is scheduled to make $2 million this upcoming year.

The 25-year-old said that the fact that he does not yet have a new deal is on his mind:

“I’d be lying if I said it’s not,” Drake said. “It’s the reality of the situation. But I understand that what I do right now is going to affect that, when it comes. So I’m just putting the work in, right now, in the weight room, the film room, the practice field. Watching film. Putting myself in the best position. So when I come out here, there’s no hesitation. There is no what-ifs. I’m coming out here trying to put my best on the field. And at the end of the day I can look myself in the mirror and understand I gave my best and my best was what I put out here.”

Drake is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he rushed for 535 yards and four touchdowns while also hauling in 53 receptions for 477 yards and five scores, so he is a versatile piece of the Dolphins' offense and is hoping new head coach Brian Flores uses him like Flores' previous New England Patriots team used James White:

“They get the ball to running backs in check-down situations,” Drake said. ”(Tom) Brady always did a great job of finding his outlets and letting his athletes get the 5- and 10-yard gains. When you have an athlete as versatile as James White you can make the person miss and take it the distance every time. To watch film like that and get out in the defense. And figure out a way to get into the zone or lose leverage to my advantage. To free up space for me to make plays.”
