The Miami Dolphins will not be pursuing University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh for their head-coaching position, according to Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“I know and respect Jim Harbaugh, but with my relationship with Michigan I would not have an interest in hiring him,’’ said Dolphins owner Steve Ross in a text.

Ross is a Michigan alum and a booster of the school. As a matter of fact, Michigan's business program is named after him.

So, based on Ross' allegiance to the university, it is not surprising that he will not be trying to pry Harbaugh away from the school like the New York Jets, who are said to be interested in the former San Francisco 49ers head coach.

Miami is in the midst of a 7-8 campaign and is coming off a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon, which officially eliminated the Dolphins from playoff contention.

Afterward, Miami head coach Adam Gase seemed to throw quarterback Ryan Tannehill under the bus, saying he wishes Tannehill “would have played a little better.”

Perhaps Gase should be more worried about himself than Tannehill, as he doesn't appear to have much job security at the moment.

Gase is in his third year as Dolphins head coach and has gone 23-24 overall. He led Miami to 10 wins and a playoff appearance in his first season in 2016, but since then, the Dolphins have been a mediocre club, at best.

Miami will wrap up its regular season when it takes on the Buffalo Bills next weekend.
