The Miami Dolphins are in desperate need of a talented quarterback. But it seems like they will be counting themselves out for the Tom Brady sweepstakes. If we take team owner Stephen Ross' words seriously, it seems like they wouldn't be making a move on the six-time Super Bowl winner.

Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post managed to get a hold of the Dolphins owner during the Bloomberg Summit. Super Bowl LIV just so happens to be happening in his backyard. He was asked about the possibility of acquiring Brady if he doesn't resign with the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, his reply was more than discouraging for Dolphins Nation.

“I hear he’s going to be a free agent but we’re not allowed to talk to him until March. I don’t know why he would want to come to Miami as we are a rebuilding team.”

What Ross said was correct: the Dolphins are still a couple of pieces away from making a serious run for the Super Bowl. They let go of a lot of talent last year in order to get a couple of draft picks. With Brady wanting to win another Super Bowl immediately, their plans don't necessarily match.

However, a name as heavy as Tom Brady's can easily sway free agency in favor of the Dolphins. They can convince talent they wouldn't usually be able to acquire to sign up for them. If they manage to get TB12 in, their free agency should go a lot smoother than you would think.

It's possible that they're not seriously chasing for the New England legend, but it's also possible that they're putting up smoke and mirrors to get him. Only time will tell which one of these takes is true.
