The Miami Dolphins face a tall task in facing the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and they'll do so with a shorthanded backfield.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins placed Myles Gaskin on the reserve/COVID-19 list, leaving them with a limited number of running backs.

Altogether, the Dolphins will be down three running backs with Gaskin, Matt Breida, and Salvon Ahmed. Both Gaskin and Breida are on the reserve/COVID-19 list while Ahmed is dealing with a shoulder injury.

Gaskin has been a pleasant surprise for Miami's offense this season, solidifying himself as the most productive back on the team. The second-year running back out of Washington leads the team with 477 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 121 carries.

Additionally, Gaskin has been a reliable pass-catcher, hauling in 32 receptions for 249 yards in eight games. Besides his situation with COVID-19, Gaskin already missed time on injured reserve with a knee injury last month.

As a result of Gaskins being ruled out, the Dolphins will be left with DeAndre Washington, Patrick Laird, and Elijah McGuire at running back. Seeing that Miami could be throwing it often, Washington will likely see the bulk of the snaps against the Chiefs.

Before the 2020 season, Washington signed with Kansas City, reuniting with his former college teammate in Patrick Mahomes. However, due to him having a limited role, the Chiefs would trade Washington to the Dolphins ahead of the NFL's deadline.

Despite the uphill climb Miami was going to face in trying to defeat the reigning Super Bowl champions, their chances got even slimmer with Gaskin headed to the COVID-19 reserve list. In light of that, we hope that Gaskin or someone in his family wasn't exposed to COVID-19.
