Like Jarvis Landry and Ndamukong Suh, Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey’s days in South Beach are over. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Pouncey has asked the Miami Dolphins for a release, which the team is expected to grant.

More changes coming in Miami: Dolphins center Mike Pouncey has requested his released and Miami is expected to grant it today, per source. Moving on from Pouncey, Ndamukong Suh, Jarvis Landry.

This marks the end of Pouncey’s seven-year marriage with the Dolphins. Pouncey entered the pro ranks in 2011, when he was selected 11th overall by the Dolphins in the NFL Draft. Pouncey previously inked a five-year deal worth $44.7 million in 2015, but requested a release after getting asked to take a pay cut by Miami, per Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post.

Mike Pouncey declined to take a pay cut. “I gave this city everything I had,” Pouncey told me. “I’m heartbroken.”

By unloading Mike Pouncey off their boat, the Dolphins will be able to create a $7 million cap space, which they could use to address other holes on their team. They are unlikely to look for a starting center, however, despite Pouncey’s looming departure, as Miami has already secured Pouncey’s replacement in the form of Daniel Kilgore. Kilgore was acquired by the Dolphins via a trade with the San Francisco 49ers that also netted them a 2018 pick in the seventh round. The Niners, on the other hand, got a seventh-round pick in the deal.

The 28-year-old Pouncey, who has been named to three Pro-Bowl teams so far in his career, should not have a hard time attracting interests as a free agent.
