James Burgess didn't last long with the Miami Dolphins. Miami waived the young linebacker today to make room for Adolphus Washington on the roster, per Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.

Burgess latched on with the Dolphins in December and spent the end of the season on their practice squad. Once the year ended, he signed a reserve/futures contract with the team. It was actually his second stint with the Dolphins, as he originally signed with the team back in 2016 as an undrafted free agent.

Although he's only 25, Burgess has already bounced around the league quite a bit. He's spent time with the Dolphins, Chargers, Ravens, Jaguars, and Browns, and is approaching journeyman status. The only place Burgess actually got playing time was with the Browns. Other than that it's just been offseason rosters and practice squads.

But he did carve out a real role with Cleveland, spending most of two years with them. He received a ton of run in 2017, appearing in 14 games and starting nine. In those 14 appearances, he racked up 70 tackles, 12 for loss, and four sacks. He also added three passes defended and a forced fumble.

He went into 2018 competing for a starting role but was injured just a few weeks into the season and released shortly after that. It's not a great sign for his NFL future that he couldn't last very long into the offseason, especially with a rebuilding Dolphins team. That being said he's still pretty young, and teams have clearly seen enough in him to keep giving him chances, so he should resurface somewhere before too long.
