The Miami Dolphins announced they have waived running back Mark Walton after the team was made aware of his involvement in a police matter.

Statement by Dolphins general manager Chris Grier:

“We were made aware of a police matter earlier this morning regarding Mark Walton,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said in a statement. “We hold our players to a high standard and take these matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time.”

According to a police document obtained by ESPN, Walton was arrested on Tuesday morning and was charged with aggravated assault of a pregnant woman. The report stated that Walton is accused of pushing a woman into a wall and punching her multiple times in her head and face. When police arrived on the scene, the woman had swelling on her left eye.

This isn't the first time that Walton has been in legal trouble. He had completed two of the four games in his suspension for violating the NFL conduct and substance abuse policy. The suspension was stemming from three offseason arrests between January and March.

It was expected that Walton would be back with the Dolphins after his current suspension, but after the news on Tuesday, the team decided to move on from him immediately.

Walton was the leading rusher on the Dolphins with 201 yards and many believed that he could be a long-term option at running back. With this latest development surrounding, he will probably be looking for a new long term option this offseason instead.
