The Miami Dolphins have announced that linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel will be activated from the injured reserve. As a result, it appears cornerback Aqib Talib will not be making his Dolphins debut in the 2019 NFL season.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Talib and defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter will not return from IR:

So what this means: Aqib Talib will not play for Dolphins this season. And Jonathan Ledbetter won't either.

Although the Dolphins have managed to win back-to-back games in recent weeks, they are still not playing for much at this point in the 2019 NFL season. The decision not to activate Talib off IR only serves to provide more proof of their efforts to tank for a higher pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Talib started the 2019 NFL season in his second stint with the Los Angeles Rams and served as their top cornerback for the first five games before suffering a rib injury. The Rams ultimately opted to place him on IR before he was dealt along with a fifth-round pick to the Dolphins for a 2022 seventh-round pick ahead of the Oct. 29 trade deadline.

The move to sideline Talib for the rest of the 2019 campaign falls in line with their attempts to usher in a bit of a youth movement amidst their current rebuild. Miami had taken Van Ginkel in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and it is clear they are trying to see what the rookie if given the opportunity down the final stretch.
