The Miami Dolphins pulled off a miracle play in their 34-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Week 14, lateraling the football twice on the final play as Kenyan Drake scrambled over 50 yards into the end zone. It's one of the most surprising finishes in recent NFL history.

Now, the Dolphins are attempting to cash in on that miracle. According to Darren Rovell on Twitter, the Dolphins have filed to trademark the phrase “MIAMIRACLE.” The win took the team from 6-6 to 7-6, helping keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Miami went into the fourth quarter with a 28-27 lead over New England, but the Patriots kicked two field goals — the latter of which came with just 16 seconds remaining — to take a 33-28 lead. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was able to complete a pass to Kenny Stills in the middle of the field as the clock ran out, and Still flipped the ball back to fellow wide receiver DeVante Parker. After a few steps, Parker was able to get the ball to Drake.

It appeared as though Drake was going to lateral once more, but a couple of key blocks opened up the middle of the field. Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots' star tight end, had been in on the final play to guard on a Hail Mary but stumbled as he attempted to cut Drake off on the way to the end zone.

Following up this game, the Patriots lost again in Week 15 on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That has left the door open for the Dolphins to win the division, but they lost to the Minnesota Vikings. Miami holds the tie-breaker between the two teams, but they'd need to win out while the Patriots lose both of their final two games.
