One of the primary focuses for the Miami Dolphins heading into the offseason involves Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry's future with the team.

Landry will become a free agent this offseason for the first time, and he has eyes toward inking a lucrative deal with either Miami or another team. Per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Mike Tannenbaum, who is the Dolphins' executive vice president of football operations, stated that the team still has plenty of time to get a new deal done, but there's a lack of certainty of what will ultimately happen.

The free agency period does not officially begin until March 13th, which is just under two months away. Meanwhile, the Dolphins do possess the option of placing the franchise tag on Landry, which can be done anywhere between Feb. 20th and March 6th. The tag can be used as a placeholder to widen the timetable to work out a new deal with the three-time Pro Bowler.

Miami does have a clear basis to go off of for contract discussions, as Landry voiced that he has no desire to take a hometown discount. He put together his best individual season in 2017, posting a career-high 112 receptions, 987 receiving yards, and a career-best nine touchdowns. Landry set a couple of franchise records with the most catches in a single season while being the first Dolphin to record at least 100 catches in multiple seasons.

Landry is one of the league's most dynamic receivers out of the slot. His level of production over his brief NFL career should put him in line to receive a hefty payday from the Dolphins or another team. The Baltimore Ravens could enter the picture if no deal is signed prior to the free agency period, as they expressed interest in acquiring him prior to the start of the 2017 season and at the trade deadline.
