On Sunday, Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton was involved in a dangerous car accident which required the 22-year-old to be hospitalized. Severe injuries to the 2018 seventh-round draft pick's left arm led doctors to amputate the limb.

Now, the Dolphins are covering Norton's medical expenses, per Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.

Wolfe writes, “The NFL stepped in with some help Tuesday morning, telling Norton that all of his medical bills will be covered under the league's and Dolphins' insurance policy.”

Kendrick Norton was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the final round in 2018, later waived, and then signed to Carolina's practice squad. Miami signed the 6-foot-3, 309-pound Norton in December of last year.

The team released a statement last week expressing its thoughts for Norton:

“We were made aware this morning of a serious car accident involving Kendrick Norton
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendrick and his family during this time.”

Norton played three seasons of collegiate football at the University of Miami.

He posted a thumbs-up on Instagram in the aftermath of his surgery.

The injury and amputation suffered by Kendrick Norton will likely end his NFL playing days. Norton will miss next season and will search for a new path in his life. Per ESPN, Norton's camp launched a GoFundMe campaign for financial support. It raised over $9,000 after Monday.
