A young offensive weapon is making its way back to the Miami Dolphins' rotation in the upcoming season. Incoming sophomore wideout Preston Williams was a major contributor in the offensive side of the field until he went down with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last season.

NFL Update posted the developments on the situation of Williams on Twitter:

Preston Williams was an undrafted player out of Colorado State in the 2019 NFL Draft. He eventually signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2019. He managed to make the final 53-man roster and make his NFL debut in the Dolphins' 2019 season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. He had three receptions for 24 yards and scored his first professional touchdown in the 59-10 loss.

A great start to his rookie season eventually went downhill as Williams fell injured in Week 9 against the New York Jets. Williams left the game with a knee injury and was diagnosed with a torn ACL, abruptly ending his rookie season. He finished the young 2019 season with 32 catches for 428 yards and three touchdowns as the team's leading receiver at the time of his injury.

After being cleared to return, Preston Williams is eager to work his way back to the Dolphins' offensive rotation. It is now being headlined by the team's top 2020 draft selection in former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Veteran wide receivers DeVante Parker and Albert Wilson are still threats on the wings, while running back Jordan Howard is also looking to contribute in the upcoming season.

Williams' return may hopefully spark life to a rebuilding Dolphins side that finished with a lowly 5-11 record last season. The Miami-based squad will open the 2020 season with a matchup against the reigning division leader New England Patriots on September 13.
