Ryan Fitzpatrick is under no delusion he's guaranteed a starting spot with the Miami Dolphins.

After the journeyman quarterback signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the team on Sunday, though, he couldn't help but express appreciation for getting yet another chance to compete to be a team's starting quarterback.

“I have been in pretty much every situation you could imagine in my career,” he said, per the Dolphins' website. “The way I view this is there are 32 of these starting gigs in the NFL in this is one of them. The opportunity to be one of them is an amazing privilege and honor.”

Miami traded longtime starter Ryan Tannehill, along with a sixth-round pick, to the Tennessee Titans last week in exchange for a 2020 fourth-rounder and 2019 seventh-rounder.

The team also has the 13th overall pick in the upcoming draft, and will undoubtedly consider drafting a quarterback with its first-round pick depending on how the draft unfolds.

Fitzpatrick, though, seems assured of participating in the Dolphins' quarterback competition regardless. And given his NFL longevity, the 14-year veteran believes he's better suited than ever to be a starter.

“Experience is such a big thing for a quarterback,” he said. “I feel like I’m playing really good football right now. The last four, five years I think I’ve taken the next step and hopefully I continue to improve.”

The 36 year old threw for 2,366 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, playing in eight games, starting seven ahead of former number one overall pick Jameis Winston.
