Stephen Ross spoke clearly. Over the past week, speculation of Tom Brady's next destination has grown rampant, especially with his cryptic tweeting. One name listed as a potential suitor for the 42-year-old is his current divisional team's rival: the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins, who finished 5-11 in 2019, need a quarterback. They could get one in the NFL Draft, they could stick with Ryan Fitzpatrick or they could get the greatest to ever play the game in his first visit to unrestricted free agency. Miami's owner, Stephen Ross, doesn't see why they would go after Brady.

I’ve heard he’s going to be a free agent, but we’re not allowed to talk to him until sometime in March and we’re a team now that’s building,” said Ross on Friday, via the Miami Herald. “I don’t know why he’d really want to come to the Dolphins. He’s probably one of the fiercest competitors there is and we’re at the stage with the Dolphins where we’re trying to build a team for the future.”

Brady to the Dolphins makes some sense, but not a lot. While it would certainly be interesting to see him play twice a year and he is familiar with the Dolphins' coaching staff, he's not on the same competitive timeline that Miami is.

“We’re building,” Ross later told reporters. “He’s a fierce competitor, he’s a great quarterback. He’s the greatest of all time. I don’t know why that’s the question everybody’s writing about. Hey, people need something to write about.”

People need something to write about. People will eventually find a different Dolphins quarterback — not named Brady — to write about.
