Tua Tagovailoa was pretty surprised Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores named him the team's starting quarterback.

When Flores called Tagovailoa into his office to name him the starter, the new face of the Dolphins franchise thought his head coach wanted to watch some film (via Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post).

The Dolphins are 3-3 on the 2020 season. Tua Tagovailoa will get his first NFL start against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8. The youngster will likely use the team's bye week in Week 7 to get his mind and body prepared for the Rams game.

Tagovailoa was a star in college at Alabama under Nick Saban. He threw for 87 touchdowns and 7,442 yards while completing 69.3 percent of his passes. The Dolphins have been looking for a superstar quarterback ever since Hall of Famer Dan Marino retired. The fans in Miami are praying Tagovailoa won't be a bust.

Tagovailoa's main options on offense are DeVante Parker, Myles Gaskin, Mike Gesicki and Jakeem Grant. While the Dolphins aren't expected to make the playoffs this season, Tagovailoa isn't going in with that mindset since he's been a winner his entire football life.

You have to feel bad for veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick since he was playing pretty well for the Dolphins, but this was absolutely the right move by Brian Flores. Tagovailoa is the future and there is no point in delaying his career for a journeyman like Fitzpatrick.
