The Miami Dolphins find themselves in a bit of a must-win situation going into their Week 14 matchup with the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, they may be shorthanded with the uncertain status of cornerback Xavien Howard.

Howard has been dealing with a knee injury he suffered against the Buffalo Bills. According to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe, he is listed as questionable for Sunday's showdown versus the Patriots:

Xavien Howard is week-to-week with a knee injury.

Head coach Adam Gase indicated that they may not declare his status until closer to game time, via Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald:

Adam Gase says Xavien Howard has a bad knee. Team won't know if he can play until end of the week. Doesn't sound good.

The prospect of Howard not being able to play against New England is certainly a crushing blow for Miami. Howard is in the midst of a breakout season with the Dolphins. The former second-round pick has established himself as a ball hawk, hauling in seven interceptions this season, including four over the last two weeks. As a result, he was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

His presence will be sorely missed by the Dolphins as they get set to host an efficient Patriots offense. New England has no shortage of weapons on the side of the ball. Miami will need all the help they can get to try and contain it. This will be much more difficult to do if Howard is unable to play this week.
