The Miami Dolphins are heading into the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft with a great situation on their hands. Due to some moves they made, the franchise has three picks in the first round. All of those picks will start with the team having the No. 5 overall pick.

Over the past few weeks, the Dolphins have shown that they want to get back to winning football games in bunches. They did not hold back in free agency, making big moves and setting themselves up to contend in 2020. Among those moves were the signings of cornerback Byron Jones, linebacker Kyle Van Noy, pass rusher Shaq Lawson, and running back Jordan Howard.

So far, the Dolphins have improved their roster in a big way for head coach Brian Flores. However, there are quite a few other things that Miami will need to do if they want to make a push back into the playoffs next season.

Among those moves that are needed is figuring out which player to go with at No. 5 overall. With that being said, let's take a look at who the Dolphins should take with that selection.

Who Should The Dolphins Target At No. 5 Overall?

Quite simply, there is only one position that Miami should be looking at with this pick. They need a franchise quarterback and there are two guys that could very well be available for them to choose between. Those prospects would be Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon's Justin Herbert.

While many have linked the Dolphins to Tagovailoa, the franchise should look to go the other direction. Herbert is going to be the better and safer pick for the franchise.

Last season with the Oregon Ducks, Herbert completed 66.8 percent of his pass attempts for 3,471 yards, 32 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. He also scored four touchdowns on the ground. Those numbers show just how high Herbert's potential really is moving forward.

Herbert stands in at 6-foot-6 and nearly 240 pounds. He has an excellent arm, both from a strength and accuracy perspective. What sets him apart from Tagovailoa is the football IQ that he brings to the table.

Miami would be getting an insanely smart quarterback with this pick, along with a guy who isn't coming off of a major injury. Tagovailoa's hip injury has been a concern for some teams, and could become a factor in the future. He may be healthy right now, but severe injuries seem to have a way of coming back up at some point in the future.

Choosing between these two guys is not an easy task. Either one would come in and provide the Dolphins with the franchise quarterback that they have been needing to find. However, Herbert should be the pick at No. 5 overall and would be a huge step towards getting back to the postseason.
