Colin Kaepernick could have a new NFL home in the Miami Dolphins very soon.

Ryan Tannehill's tenure with the franchise is finally over. The 2012 first-round pick was traded to the Tennessee Titans on Friday, along with a sixth-round choice in the upcoming NFL draft, in exchange for a 2020 fourth-rounder and 2019 seventh-rounder.

The deal leaves rookie coach Brian Flores' team without a starting quarterback, and it's currently unclear how likely the Dolphins are to select a signal-caller with the 13th pick come April 25th. There aren't many quarterbacks on the free-agent market, either, who could potentially serve as an effective bridge between now and the time when Miami anoints its next franchise quarterback.

Well, except one quarterback who's been sitting on the sidelines for the last two years, waiting for his next opportunity in the NFL. According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, former San Francisco 49ers star in Kaepernick has interest in signing with the Dolphins.

Kaepernick last played in the NFL in 2016. He went unsigned in free agency each of the last two offseasons, causing the 31-year-old to file a grievance against the NFL and its owners for collusion, a case that was settled out of court last month. Kaepernick was the first player to kneel during the national anthem before games in protest of police brutality and racial injustice, a demonstration that many believe prompted the NFL to blackball him.

Miami owner Stephen Ross was deposed by Kaepernick's legal team in February of last year. In the deposition, Ross said he was supportive of players taking a knee during the anthem until President Donald Trump, a staunch opponent of Kaepernick, involved himself in the issue.
