The Miami Dolphins are expected to keep Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the veteran leader for whatever quarterback they bring in, rather than bringing in a different free-agent quarterback during free agency.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Fitzpatrick is the plan for next year.

Brian Flores praised what he was able to do during the 2019 season with the Dolphins:

“I think ‘Fitz’ did a good job, a really good job last year,” Flores said. “His leadership was something that really helped us a year ago. I’m really focused on the guys that are on our team right now. As far as Tom Brady and free agents, that’s coming up and I understand the question.

“But right now, we’re having conversations and we’re kind of looking at everything – Chris, myself, our personnel staff, we look at everything. Every avenue, Chris has got a Plan A, Plan B, Plan C for everything. That’s a good thing. We kind of bounce ideas off of each other. It’s a really good working relationship. We’ll see what happens as we move forward.”

Even if the questions are answered about Fitzpatrick or another veteran quarterback the Dolphins will use during the 2020 season, there are still questions about what young quarterback they will bring in.

The Dolphins hold the fifth overall pick and there are many who believe they will select Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert.

Whoever the Dolphins do end up with, Fitzpatrick is a great choice to help them get adjusted to life as an NFL quarterback in the NFL.

Of course, the Dolphins will also have other areas of need on their roster this offseason as they try to get back to being a playoff contender once again in the AFC.

Miami was an improved team last season, and Flores and company seem to have the franchise on the right track.
