The NFL offseason was kicked into high gear after Baltimore Ravens parted ways with quarterback Joe Flacco. It appears that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill could be the next long-tenured starter on his way out of town.

There is plenty of speculation regarding Tannehill's future amidst all the recent changes in Miami. According to Omar Kelly of the Orlando Sentinel, offensive coordinator Chad O'Shea was rather non-committal regarding their plans under center this offseason:

The most important thing for our quarterback moving forward, whoever that is, we want great traits in that player,” O'Shea said.

“Whoever that is” clarifies that Miami is exploring their options, and positioning the franchise to move on from Tannehill, who could either be traded or released in the coming weeks or months.

This is not the most encouraging update for Tannehill. He has already had a difficult time proving his worth as a franchise quarterback due to his track record with injuries. It appears the new coaching staff is not looking to wait any longer for him to reach his potential.

O'Shea's comments are certainly understandable. Tannehill has had more than enough time to develop into an unquestioned starter in Miami. Unfortunately, it has only resulted in a 42-26 record in seven seasons. He did not fare much better in the 2018 campaign after throwing for just 1,979 yards and 17 touchdowns in 11 games.

The Dolphins currently own the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. If they do not feel that they can select a viable option in their current position, they can always attempt to trade up. They will also have a number of options set to hit the market as free agents this offseason as well.
