Miami Dolphins fourth-year wide receiver DeVante Parker has hit a minor setback this offseason after suffering a broken finger which will force him to miss the rest of the preseason and possibly the season opener.

However, this won't lead to the team exploring any trade scenarios for the 25-year-old at this point in time, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.

But if you’re thinking the Miami Dolphins will trade their 2015 first round draft pick, think again.

A league source familiar with the Dolphins’ plans told The Miami Herald this week that Parker will not be traded.

Before his latest injury, Parker was making strides in his increased role in the offense in training camp. The Dolphins are hoping that he can become their top receiving option, especially after the departure of Pro Bowl wideout Jarvis Landry earlier this offseason in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

Parker has a chance to establish himself as one of the top young receivers in the league with a chance to be the go-to option in the passing game for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. However, this injury will force him to be limited in his activities for the rest of training camp and preseason; the only thing he can truly do is work on his conditioning.

This may put Parker behind the eight ball in terms of further gaining comfort in that increased role, as he will be limited in practice availability once he does come back.

Parker has shown that he can be a productive and reliable receiving option in the passing game, but injuries have limited his impact on the field despite coming off a 2017 campaign where he made a career-high 57 catches for 670 receiving yards and a touchdown in 13 games played. He has a prime opportunity to finally take a step forward in fulfilling the massive expectations that come with being a first-round pick.
