The Miami Dolphins are looking to set an expensive price tag for cornerback Xavien Howard ahead of the NFL trade deadline slated on November 3. The organization is looking to get multiple assets in exchange for the services of the Baylor product.

Via Adam Schefter of ESPN:

“The Miami Dolphins have taken a call on star cornerback Xavien Howard, but it would take a “Laremy Tunsil type” of offer to pry him loose. Miami famously traded Tunsil and Stills to Houston last year for a package that included two first-round draft picks and a second-rounder.”

Xavien Howard has made his presence felt for the Dolphins this season as he contributed 11 total tackles and four interceptions through six games played. He is also a tenured veteran with a Pro Bowl appearance and a NFL interceptions co-leader award under his belt. Despite his individual success, it seems like the Dolphins are still asking for too much in exchange of the 27-year-old defensive player.

They will aim to use the same trick that landed them multiple assets from the Tunsil trade ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. After a year, it seems like the Dolphins got the better end of the trade back in August of 2019. Tunsil snagged the first Pro Bowl appearance of his career as a member of the Texans and his good showing made a strong case for him to land a hefty contract extension which made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in terms of annual value.

However, the Texans have unexpectedly looked dysfunctional in the first half of the 2020 NFL season. They previously parted ways with former head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien and are sitting with a 1-6 standing thus far. Even the rebuilding Dolphins are doing better than them with a 3-3 record heading into Week 8  proceedings.

The upcoming trade deadline will see whether a team is capable of heeding the lucrative trade demands of the Dolphins and if Howard will indeed find a new home for the remainder of the season.
